Since October 2010, the Frazier Museum has staged and performed over 30 of Edgar Allan Poe’s works — a feat unsurpassed by anyone else.
Join us this fall as we celebrate our tenth season of An Evening with Poe, a beloved annual program series that brings to life stories of tragedy, comedy, lost love, mystery, and the macabre from the mind of Edgar Allan Poe. Featuring original theater, live music, and Poe-inspired artworks, the program this year will also include Beyond the Raven: The Poe You Didn’t Know, an exhibit highlighting Poe’s legacy in pop culture. The lineup of performances includes The Raven, The Bells, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Systems of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether, A Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym, and more!
Poe's name brings to mind images of murderers and madmen, premature burials, and mysterious women who return from the dead. In print since 1827, his works include such literary classics as The Tell-Tale Heart, The Raven, and The Fall of the House of Usher. Poe's versatile body of work includes short fiction, poems, a novel, a textbook, a book of scientific theory, and hundreds of essays and book reviews. He is widely acknowledged as the inventor of the modern detective story and an innovator in the science fiction genre, but he made his living as America's first great literary critic and theoretician.
Every year, the Frazier partners with local schools to celebrate Poe’s legacy through artworks. The top-scoring pieces are featured in the museum galleries. All submissions from 2019 can be found in our online gallery. New this year, the Frazier has partnered with
Western Middle School for the Arts and the Louisville Photo Biennial to run “Poe”tography Project 2019.
